Explore Frontpoint’s equipment packages, monitoring plans, and pricing options
If you’re looking for high-quality security equipment that comes in customizable packages that you can easily set up yourself, Frontpoint should be on your short list. It’s definitely on ours. In fact, we like it so much that we put it on several of our best lists, including our list of the best DIY security systems out there. Keep reading, and we think you’ll see why.
What do we like so much about Frontpoint? Let’s start with customer service that’s among the best in the business. Then there’s the 30-day money-back guarantee, which ensured we weren’t locked into a contract until we were sure Frontpoint was right for us. We were also fans of the DIY installation. Not only did we save at least $100 over professional installation, but Frontpoint made the whole process easy to do ourselves.
Now, we’re certainly not saying Frontpoint is perfect. We’re not even saying it’s the right home security system for you. Plenty of homeowners might be turned off by Frontpoint’s pricing, which can be a touch on the high side. Equipment pricing isn’t bad. In fact, with Frontpoint’s frequent sales, you can actually get a package at quite a reasonable cost. Monitoring fees, on the other hand…In the first place, there’s no option to self-monitor, so you’re locked into paying a monthly fee for professional monitoring. The real kicker though? That fee is $49.99 a month. That’s among the steeper prices in the industry.
There are pros and cons to consider, so let’s start off by taking a look at what Frontpoint offers in terms of features:
As we’ve already suggested, Frontpoint offers a number of great features, standard with every system and every plan. The quick and easy self-installation process is a breeze, with step-by-step instructions. Plus, if you get stuck, customer service is just a phone call away. We had our system up in under 30 minutes. Frontpoint also offers a three-year hardware warranty. If anything goes wrong with your equipment, you’re covered.
What impresses us most about Frontpoint, though, is its features. Outside of Vivint, few systems offer as many high tech extras as Frontpoint. Unlike Vivint though, you have to tinker with your system to access all these features. Frontpoint is a DIY system, both in terms of installation and system control. We love having the power in our own hands, though, and we love features like:

Everything in the Frontpoint system is central to your dual-channel hub, but you have tons of options for peripheral equipment. Simply put, if you have a specific security need, Frontpoint has the equipment you’ll need to cover it. Some of their add-ons include:

Using the Frontpoint app, you can arm your system remotely, receive alerts, tweak settings, and livestream from your indoor or outdoor cameras. And you can do all of that whether you’re at home or away. Whether the Fed Ex man shows up with that package you’ve been waiting for or there’s a porch pirate lurking trying to spot when you get a package, you’re notified. In fact, with customized alerts, you may not even have to check the message. If you happen to leave the door open, you’ll get a notification that clearly says Door Open.
The app also gives you access to Frontpoint’s home automation tools, so you can control things like smart door locks, smart lights, and smart plugs with your mobile device. Kids forget to turn off the basement lights before you left for the weekend? No worries. The app not only lets you know they’re still on, but gives the power to turn them off.
You get all of these controls automatically with the Ultimate monitoring plan. (This is the only monitoring plan the system is offering moving forward, and it costs $49.99 per month.)
Frontpoint App
MOBILE ALERTS |
Frontpoint’s mobile app puts the power of home security in the palm of your hand. Stay connected with alerts from motion sensors, flood sensors, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors, and more. |
24/7 MONITORING |
All Frontpoint security systems are paired with a 24/7 professional monitoring plan. If your alarm is triggered, a security professional will reach out to you immediately, and they will dispatch emergency help if needed. |
WIRELESS EQUIPMENT |
Frontpoint’s entryway sensors, video cameras, and other security equipment is wireless. Installation leaves no permanent marks, and you can easily take the equipment with you if you move. |
SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS |
Their optional home security cameras let you save recordings and stream live video to mobile phones, tablets, and computers. |
DIY INSTALLATION |
Maintain your privacy. With Frontpoint, no technician needs to visit your home. You can install the equipment yourself in about 30 minutes. |
SMART HOME SYSTEMS |
Home automation helps people save time and money. Frontpoint’s mobile app makes it easy to automate your home’s lights, locks, thermostat, and more. |
DISASTER PROTECTION |
For all-around protection, you can customize your system with environmental sensors to alert you in the case of flood, fire, or a carbon monoxide leak. |
REMOTE CONTROLS |
Control your Frontpoint system remotely via the app or the add-on keychain remote ($24.99). With the keychain remote, you can arm or disarm the system, or send an emergency alert for immediate help. |
GEOFENCING |
Using your smartphone’s GPS, Frontpoint can put a wireless “fence” around your home. This is called geofencing, and it allows your system to alert you if you leave your “fence” without setting your alarm. When you get the alert, just tap the button in the app to secure your home. |
FYI: Frontpoint has an excellent 4.6-star rating on Trustpilot.1
We’re constantly researching, testing, and comparing security systems, but we wanted to see what Frontpoint customers had to say about their service. We surveyed 20 customers and asked them to rate the system in 10 different areas, including an overall rating. Here are the results.

Frontpoint’s retail pricing is pretty average when you compare it to the rest of the market. Systems start at around $500 and can go as high as $1,300. That’s just a touch under what you’d pay for ADT or Vivint systems. That said, Frontpoint is almost always running a sale of one kind or another, and its sale prices are actually at the lower end of the market, between $100 and $350. That makes Frontpoint one of the more affordable home security systems out there.
The real question, though, is what kind of quality do you get with those prices? Rest assured, even when you’re paying sale prices, you’re getting one of the best systems on the market. Not only is Frontpoint equipment reliable and durable, but it comes with more advanced features than many of its competitors can match. You get geofencing, for example, which tracks your phone location and uses that information to arm and disarm your system automatically. Very few systems offer this as an option. Even Frontpoint’s nearest competitor, SimpliSafe, doesn’t offer it.
If you’re on the fence, keep this in mind: There’s no contract if you pay the equipment fee up-front, so you can cancel your monitoring at any time with no penalty. (Just give them 30 days’ notice.) Plus, Frontpoint has a 30-day, money-back guarantee on equipment, so you’ll have a window of opportunity to back out if you change your mind.
That said, you will have to sign a contract if you buy equipment through financing. Financing makes buying a Frontpoint system less of a burden, since you can get started by paying just the first month of monitoring, but the equipment cost is spread over three years. That means you’ll pay more than the $49.99 monthly monitoring fee, and of course, you’ll have to sign a contract, but as you’ll see later on, it might just make sense to go with the financing option.
Pro Tip: If none of the Frontpoint equipment packages is the right fit, you can create your own. Just use the “build-your-own” tool on their site. You start with the minimum – a hub and a keypad. Together they cost $99. Then you can add sensors, cameras, and whatever else you need. The company throws in a yard sign and door/window decals for free, and you’re done, as easy as that. Then, if you find you need another sensor or a camera or a smoke detector, you can add it to your system when you’re ready for it.

Most security systems will offer you two or more monitoring plans with a tiered-structure, starting from basic intrusion monitoring and adding features like cloud video storage and home automation as you climb up the price ladder.
Frontpoint, however, offers just one plan. It’s all-inclusive, and lets you take advantage of all the system’s best features like home automation and video recording. And of course, things are simpler if you only have one plan to choose from. At $50 a month, though, Frontpoint’s plan is one of the more expensive plans on the market.

All Frontpoint equipment — whether it’s part of a package or added on separately — comes with a three-year limited warranty. This is actually one of the better warranties in the industry. Ring Alarm, for example, offers a one-year warranty, and home security powerhouse Vivint offers a four-month warranty.
Since Frontpoint doesn’t make you mess with long-term contracts and they’ve narrowed their monitoring options to just one all-inclusive plan, ordering a system is easier than it’s ever been. Just go to their website, select the equipment package you want — or build your own — and check out. Easy as that.
You’ll be enrolled in the Ultimate monitoring package during the checkout process. There are no contracts to sign, and no installation appointments to schedule. Once you complete your purchase, Frontpoint will ship you your equipment, with detailed instructions for DIY installation. You should have everything set up in 30 minutes or less. It’s that easy!
Are there better systems out there than Frontpoint? A few. If you’re looking for a solid DIY system that’s easy to operate and reliable, you might want to consider a company like SimpliSafe, for example. SimpliSafe is our top no-monthly-fee home security system, and there’s no doubt you can save a lot of money with them and still get all the features you need to protect your home, like responsive mobile device controls.
Few companies offer all the features Frontpoint does, though. You don’t just get solid equipment and a robust app. You get home automation capabilities, innovative features like geofencing, customizable smarthome routines, and Rapid Person Detection. It’s no wonder the company ranks among our best home automation security systems and best overall home security systems. Frontpoint is going to cost you more than most, but if you have the money, it’s worth it for most.
